crack! pow! zam!

Since coming back from my grandmother's place on Sunday, I'd been following a pretty standard routine. Basketball training on Sunday afternoon, gym on Monday and Wednesday. When I wasn't doing some form of physical exercise, I was at home reading, sleeping, playing fantasy basketball or learning how to use Adobe GoLive (expect to see a new, non-blog website some time in the near future).

But the past 24 hours, woah! I think that I need a cup of warm milk and and some calming music, because I'm overstimulated. It all started last night, when I watched the Socceroos play their big game against Uraguay on TV. I don't really know all that much about socc.. er, football, but I thought the game last night was pretty exciting to watch. However, I'm still at a loss as to what some of the commentators were going on about. Why is Marco Bresciano scoring a goal after Harry Kewell completely failed to kick the ball, when he obviously tried so hard to do so, considered to be "Harry Kewell brilliance"? It was as if the comentators conveniently overlooked the fact that Kewell took a big swing at air, thinking that it was too embarassing to mention. Maybe he was simply employing some well known soccer tactic that I don't know anything about due to my ignorance: taking a big kick at an invisible ball to confuse the other team, and looking like a goose in the process. I don't say this to take away from any of the excitement of the game or how well Kewell otherwise seemed to play. I'm just a little confused is all.

Anyway, after a pretty exciting night, I calmed down by having a bit of a read before dozing off. After many hours of rest, I awoke to a new day, full of promise, and I couldn't contain my eagerness as I headed out the door. I started things off by doing something that I haven't done in at least a week, and withdrew some cash from an ATM. I then proceeded to do something that I haven't done in several months, and bought a travel ten. I had been buying weekly travepasses for a while now, but since I didn't know how much public transport I'd be riding over the next week, I thought that a travel ten was the way to go. To add to my exhilarating public transport experience, I decided to sprint for a bus that I saw pull up by the bus stop, and I was only able to get on because the driver saw me running towards him and kindly waited for me before he decided to leave.

Wow, what a day so far! But wait, it gets even better. I had several reasons for wanting to head into the city. One reason was to buy a fine-pointed marker pen, which I was able to do. It cost me $2 at Officeworks, and the lady at the checkout gave me a reciept for it just in case I wanted to claim the pen as a tax deduction.

After buying my pen, and feeling the rush you get following a satisfactory purchase of a material possession, I gave Jun a call. Jun is going to come and boo me at the basketball game I'm playing in on the weekend, and I was going to give him some tickets. It was around 1:30pm when I called him and he was out at lunch, so I decided to grab some food for myself. For the last few days I had been eating leftover dinner for lunch, so purchasing some sustenance from a food outlet in the city was quite an experience. Being in an adventurous mood, I decided to order something exotic and thought that potatoes and a few pieces of marine life bubbled in boiling hot oil wouldn't go astray.

Having eaten my lunch, I waited for Jun outside of Officeworks in a lighthearted mood, wondering what other wonders would spring forth from the day. Wouldn't it be a buzz to see someone that I knew walking with Jun, say someone like Wei Sim? What do you know, Wei was with Jun! They both looked very respectable in their suits and ties. Must be a bummer to wear a suit with summer just around the corner... doesn't seem all that practical to me. Seems even less practical considering that even the mainstream media has upgraded global warming from myth status to "oh crap, we've got a problem" status.

Seeing Jun and Wei in their fancy suits made me conscious of the fact that I was wearing sandals, so I then decided to go and buy some shoes. Wei said that a good place to buy some shoes would be at Hype on Pitt Street, so I headed towards that general direction. I thought that I may as well check out the goods at Gowings on the way there. Boy, did they have some nice shoes! Exactly what I was looking for, they were great! Unfortunately, they were around $230 a pair, so even in my happy go lucky mood I thought that I'd better look somewhere else. I browsed through a few places in Pitt Street, but didn't find anything that I wanted. As I moved out of Pitt Street and changed course, I was beginning to feel that a slight dampener was being put on my day. Would I ever find the shoes that I wanted? Just as my frame of mind was moving from sky high into middle ground, Dan England came along to lift my spirits. I didn't think that anything could top my fine-pointed marker pen purchase, but seeing this dreadlocked dude walking down the street with a cigarette in his hand came pretty close.

The sky was blue, the temperature was a nice and homeless people were selling Big Issue magazines in a non-threatening manner when I finally walked into Market City, and found just the type of shoes that I was looking for at a discounted price.

Now Hon and Herman et al. can stop telling me how I will never find female companionship because I wear basketball shoes with holes in them. I will now leave rainbows and wild-flowers in my wake and women will fawn over me because I have pretty shoes.

What a nice day, I'm enjoying my holidays :)
