summer
Home at last, home too soon? A few days ago, I was in Malibu gazing at a Californian sunset. Yesterday I was cleaning my room and playing basketball. Thoughts of how I'd respond to returning to a more familiar life lingered in the back of my mind during the last week of my travels. Coming home, it seems that such thoughts were completely nonsensical. Life hasn't changed at all. I think I've grown without shattering the way I look at and respond to things.
One thing I wanted to do this week was to get all of my photographs online. There's now a good possibility that I won't ever be able to do that, as the memory card of my camera decided to die on me when I was uploading the photos onto the computer. I managed to get about 900 of them onto the hard-disk, but I still have 300 or so that are missing in action. I took the card to Paxtons and they're in the process of trying to recover the shots, but it wasn't looking too good the last time I checked. It'll suck if I do end up losing those 300+ photos, there were some good shots in there, but if it happens it happens. I think that the process of taking the photos themselves was already very much worth my while. I'm not sure that I would've been so mindful of all that was around me if I wasn't trying to capture everything beautiful about the places I visited.
Another thing I wanted to do this week was to write a little about the books I managed to get through on my trip. My pack weighed 14.8kg when I left home, it was 20.8kg on the trip back. I'm pretty sure that the majority of that weight was due to the reading material that I'd accumulated. I've mentioned previously that this blog is a pretty unique form of self-analysis for me, in that everything I express about myself is potentially subject to scrutiny (I say potentially, because I still have no idea if anyone reads this thing). So having other people scrutinize my scrutinizing of books has to make me think extra hard about what I've been reading, which can only help me get more out of what I've read, right? Whatever. Expect a few brief book reviews soon :)
