back to uni

Uni hasn't started yet, so I've been dragging the most I possibly can out of my holidays. This has meant that I've been consciously avoiding preparations for my co-op presentation, but perhaps I'll start on it before too long. Last night I had a dream that I came to the presentations carefree and completely unprepared, and people walked out disgusted in me. I still have over a day of summer holidays and I'm already having disturbing dreams about uni!

Still, I must say that I am looking forward to this year. Having so few lectures should hopefully mean that I can organise my time with a lot more freedom. With very few exceptions, the lectures I've sat through have simply been one-way conversations on highly technical information for prolonged periods of time, which doesn't make it easy to take much in. In most instances, I'm sure that I'd have learnt just as much if the lectures were 5 minutes long and consisted of handing out notes, announcing assessment dates and telling us what we should have learnt already. Despite this, I've always preferred to obtain this limited amount of information first-hand, so have attended most of my lectures in recent years. So many wasted hours...
Anyway, if fewer lectures does mean that I have a lot more control over the ways in which I try to be productive, then that'll be fantastic. I'm also hoping that not having to unproductively sit for hours upon hours trying to absorb information from a lecturer, only to really take this information in later on by myself, will free up a lot more time to do other things. One of the worst aspects of uni has been that it feels as though it has restricted the development of other interests of mine. In this regard, I've really enjoyed my year off from studying, and I'm hoping the reduced number of contact hours at uni will allow me to continue to devote a significant amount of effort towards these other things, without a drop-off in my uni marks.

Speaking of one of these "other things", if anyone who contributed towards the drawing equipment that I got for my birthday is reading this, I'm finally putting it to use. After 6 months, my room is habitable again, so I can now spend time in my room doing things other than cleaning and sorting. In fact, I've even gone all high-tech, and my room is so well organised that I can now watch The Simpsons in bed (with the use of two mirrors), and can type in this blog from my desk (which is what I'm doing now).

And speaking of another "other thing", I enjoyed going over those books again when I wrote about them, so I'll continue to act all erudite (thanks, Steve) and will write about a few more some time soon.
