balancing out
I gave my statement to the police yesterday. I've been able to find out a little more about what happened from the other statements given by witnesses of my accident. The road that I was crossing had three lanes heading East. Cars had stopped on the inside two lanes and the outside lane appeared to be empty. That's where I got hit by a station-wagon when a woman went straight through a red light. Apparently there were several others on the crossing with me at the time, but luckily none of them got hurt.
At this point in time, I'd rather be in my shoes than the woman who hit me. I'm still a little concerned about how my head's feeling, the swelling's gone but I don't feel quite right at this stage. Aside from that I'm relatively uninjured, and touch wood, I should be back to 100% before too long. I should be getting compensation for what happened, I'll be ringing up about that today. The woman, on the other hand, looks as though she'll be charged and she doesn't really know what my condition is. Apparently she hasn't been able to sleep and has called the police asking to see how I am. It was bad being hit by the car. It can't have been much better to run into someone, see their head smash into your windscreen, see them land in front of your car, and know that you were entirely to blame. There was also a passenger in the car, which isn't fortunate at all.
I've asked the police for the woman's phone number, and they said that they'd have to ask for her permission to give it to me. What's happened has been bad enough and there's more coming for the woman, there's no sense in letting her suffer further by thinking that she's turned me into a vegetable.

hey gene,
take it easy yeah, see a doctor if your still not feeling 100 %. dun wanna get any aneurism now don't we!
I feel bad for the woman who caused the accident, looks like the police would be pressing a negligent driving charge (occasioning actual bodily harm?) against her.
From the sounds of it she is suffering psychological trauma as result of the accident, which I guess is normal after such a harrowing incident.
As for compensation I think you probably are entitled to some sort of payment. Her insurance company would probably be paying it I presume.
Take care!
Keith :)
Get as many medical examinations as you think you need as the lady's insurance company will be paying for it ! :D
Oh and hope you get a substantial compensation so you can shout me dinner ;)
Get better soon and go to work bish !
Woo
I am at work, and this is what I do at work!
I think I'll go get checked out by a doctor again today just to make sure nothing is drastically wrong with me. Aside from sore legs I feel pretty good. Wouldn't hurt to get my head checked over thoroughly though, both my dad and grandfather have had aneurisms...
Like you guys said, I'll be able to get any medical expenses off the lady's insurance. She only had compulsory third party though, if I want to get any compensation for my clothes and stuff looks it'll be more of a hassle. Any chance for some free legal advice, Keith? ;)
Hi Gene,
How did the doctor's check up go?
I don't think I have the adequate knowledge to give you legal advice but just as a matter of common sense you could try calling her up and asking her to compensate you for clothes that were damaged by the accident.
I'm sure she wouldn't have any problems with doing :)
Take care
Keith
Doctor's check-up went fine thanks, Keith. I was working myself into a mild panic after you mentioned aneurysms because my head wasn't feeling quite right, I have a family history of aneurysms, and I looked up a few websites on aneurysms which said that unruptured ones don't usually give people that much trouble. Plus my brain mustn't have been quite right because I spelt aneurysm ('aneurism') incorrectly ;)
Doctor said that I didn't have to worry because I wasn't getting headaches and any weird feelings in my head were probably due to soft-tissue damage.
I still havn't heard from the police regarding the lady's phone number, hopefully getting things settled doesn't end up being too much trouble.
Hi Gene,
Great to hear that you are ok :D
I was kinda joking about aneurisms before, but I'm glad that it sorta prompted to you get worried and then see a doctor...lol
yeah hope that all the legal/compensation stuff doesn't become complicated... thats probably the last thing anyone needs right now!
