white roads

I thought that it had been snowing when I got home the other day, the streets looked amazing. It turned out to only be hail, but seeing the footpaths covered in white was pretty enough for me. I'd never seen anything like it in Sydney. I took a few photos, but it was getting dark when I took them so they didn't turn out as well as I'd have hoped.

Did that happen on Sunday? I can't remember, but it was definitely Sunday night when the SBS showed Amelie. I may be wrong, but for some reason I have the impression that people think that the SBS is dumbing down and trying to attract a broader audience. I have no qualms about that if it means more mainstream arthouse movies like Amelie, and fewer movies about Norwegian immigrants fleeing their abusive foreldre. My parents had just gone to Bangkok for the week and my sister was out, so I was left to watch the movie at home by myself. Whilst I was at it, I did a bit of drawing. Unfortunately, I havn't done all that much drawing lately as my room is still a complete mess and I just don't have the space. Ironically, a lot of the mess has been due to all the drawing equipment I got for my birthday...
Anyway, drawing, watching Amelie... it all made me remember how little odd-ball habits that provide brief glimpses away from the ordinary can help keep you aware of how amazing things are. I guess I've always seen drawing as a bit of an odd-ball habit of mine. I've found a lot of value in the process of drawing, and it's certainly helped me break out of a lazy, mundane mental stupor at times.
